Dayana Mendoza spreading the message of awareness
As a Miss Universe, Ms. Dayana Mendoza's main job is to promote the awareness of HIV/AIDS. Last July 23, 2008 Dayana meets with Dennis Deleon and Guillermo Chacon of the Latino Commission on AIDS (LCOA) to learn more about the impact of HIV/AIDS among Hispanics in the United States. She also meets the LCOA team with whom she’ll spend her reign working with to spread the message of prevention and precaution about the fight against AIDS.
Dayana also met Krishna Stone from the Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) that day to briefed on the work they do throughout New York City. She learned more about the pandemic and the volunteer work she will be doing this year at GMHC.

Miss Universe is an annual international beauty contest run by the Miss Universe Organization. The contest was founded in 1952 by California clothing company Pacific Mills. The pageant became part of Kayser-Roth and then Gulf and Western Industries, before being acquired by Donald Trump in 1996. Alongside with its rival Miss World and Miss Earth contests, this pageant is one of the most publicized beauty contests in the world.

What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?
Interior design, photography, advertising, and I enjoy meeting people from every country and learning languages.
What is your career ambition?
Interior design and also advertising, but as Oscar Wilde used to say, "To define oneself is to limit oneself.”
What is your proudest personal accomplishment?
Being independent from the age of fifteen on, living in different countries by myself without knowing the language at the beginning and without the presence of my parents. Having succeeded in working in different cultures and learning the most from them.
What is something unique that has happened to you; some interesting thing about you?
I was once kidnapped, in what in my country is known as an express kidnapping. It was a very hard experience. I learned to remain calm in a very stressful situation and to try to reach to the human part of our abductors.
What do you want the judges to know about you?
I am grateful to life for my family and for the opportunities to grow in different places and learn the most from them. Even in the hardest of times what my family and life has taught me has helped me push through and succeed.

The Miss Universe 2008 Grand Coronation Night was held in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa, Vietnam. The night of stars and glamour in search of the most beautiful woman in the world! hosted by tv host Jerry Springer and hollywood singer Mel B. Miss Universe 2007, The Top 15, 10 and 5 finalists were judged in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown, and interview.
The judging panel for the 2008 Miss Universe Pageant included: Donald Trump Jr., Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization; fashion designer and entrepreneur Roberto Cavalli; Nadine Velazquez, international cover girl and star of NBC’s "My Name Is Earl"; Jennifer Hawkins, television presenter and Miss Universe 2004; Louis Licari, celebrity colorist and "Today Show" ambush makeover expert; Joe Cinque, President of the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences; Bollywood film & TV star, dancer, model Eesha Koppikhar; Nguyen Cong Khe, Editor in Chief of Thanh Nien newspaper and international shoe designer Taryn Rose. Jerry Springer and Mel B hosted the telecast of the 57th Annual Miss Universe competition where Lady GaGa performed her hit "Just Dance".
The NBC show was hosted by talk show star Jerry Springer and Spice Girl Melanie Brown and broadcast live to estimated worldwide viewing audience of more than 1 billion viewers in 170 countries.

At the end Miss Colombia was declared as the first runner up and Miss Venezuela became the new Miss Universe winner. Riyo Mori, Miss Universe 2007, crowned Mendoza as her successor for the major title of the Pageant.

The 57th Annual Miss Universe Competition is over, after the two-hour Grand Coronation Night event of contestants from 80 countries and territories around the world competed in three major categories: Swimsuit, Evening Gown and Personality Interview, one emerged and deserved the title as Miss Universe 2008. That beautiful, intelligent, and sexy lady is non other than Miss Venezuela: Dayana Mendoza. Miss Universe 2007 Riyo took her final walk before the hundreds of millions of live viewers in 170 countries and crowned her successor from the Crown Convention Center in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa, Vietnam.
Brief Biography:
Mendoza, 22, is a 5-foot, 10-inch (178-centimeter), green-eyed beauty who enjoys learning languages, photography and is interested in advertising. Ms. Mendoza's career ambition is to become an Interior Designer. Dayana Sabrina Mendoza Moncada is her real name. She was born on June 1, 1986 in Caracas, Venezuela and is a model and crowned as Miss Venezuela 2007. She speaks Spanish, English and Italian. On 2001 Mendoza signed with Elite Model Management and modeled in Italy, France, United States, England, Greece, Spain, Germany, Mexico and Peru for Versace, Roberto Cavalli and other fashion designers.
